Reducing women’s inequalities in EU agricultural areas: the role of digitalisation

Gender inequality remains a persistent issue in rural and agricultural areas across the EU and globally, stifling progress toward a more inclusive and equitable society. Despite numerous EU initiatives such as the Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025, CAP and European Green Deal, rural women continue to face significant challenges. These include limited access to land, education and leadership roles, which not only affect their livelihoods but also hinder broader socioeconomic development in rural areas.This webinar, organised by the CODECS project (Horizon Europe), will shed light on these critical issues by exploring the potential of digitalisation to help bridge gender gaps in agriculture. With a focus on innovative, digital-based solutions, the event will discuss how current policies impact gender equality in rural regions and what more can be done to empower women in the sector. A representative from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations will provide an overview of the status of women in agrifood systems, setting the stage for a broader discussion on gender and rural development.
