On March 16, 2026, an online informational session was held, organized by the HAZI entrepreneurship team in collaboration with NEKATUR, aimed at entrepreneurs interested in launching a rural lodging business. The session was led by Idoia Ezkurdia, a representative from NEKATUR.
During the session, various key aspects were addressed to analyze the feasibility and approach of a rural lodging project in the Basque Country. Highlights of the content presented included the current regulatory framework, key data and trends in rural tourism published by Eustat and other sectoral observatories, as well as the profile of demand and the behavior of travelers.
Participants also shared experiences and lessons learned from the sector, focusing on the evolution of rural tourism toward offerings based on experience, authenticity, and sustainability, as well as on the importance of digitalization, communication, and the diversification of services.
The session also provided an opportunity to present NEKATUR’s role as the association of rural accommodations in the Basque Country, its work representing and supporting the sector, and the resources and services it offers to rural accommodations.
This event is part of HAZI’s GEROA support service for entrepreneurial projects, which has detected a significant increase in recent years in inquiries related to the launch of rural accommodations.
The presentation used during the event is available here, containing the information shared and the main topics covered in the session.
